Listen
A tiny audio player for Windows. Open a file and listen, with a queue, a mini player and taskbar controls, and nothing else in the way. No media library, no account, no telemetry.
Every file
Who it is for
Anyone on Windows who wants to play a file or a short queue without opening a whole media library.
What it does
- Plays MP3, WAV, WMA, M4A, AAC and FLAC.
- A mini player, and both players can stay on top of other windows.
- A play queue you fill by dropping files, kept between launches.
- Repeat the queue or the track, and the artwork Windows has for it.
- Previous, play, next and repeat from the taskbar preview.
- Open with, Play with Listen and Add to the queue in File Explorer, without taking over your default apps.
Why I built it
I wanted a small audio player that opened quickly and stayed out of the way, for a single file or a short queue, without a media library, a video player or a streaming interface. I still wanted the useful parts, so Listen has them and nothing more.
What I built
- A native WPF player, compiled with the .NET Framework that Windows already has, with no bundled browser runtime.
- File Explorer and Default Apps registration for the current user, with no administrator rights.
- An installer and a portable zip from one build script.
